Two jump-offs, six riders, three medals, and Colombia claimed the most coveted gold.
Roberto Terán Tafur (COL) claimed the individual gold medal in show jumping at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, at the Centro Ecuestre Palmarejo, with 33 riders representing 10 countries. Only two combinations completed both rounds of the final without penalties, Terán Tafur and Victoria Huertematte (PAN), while four others on 4 faults contested the bronze in a first high-stakes jump-off.
Nicolás Pizarro (MEX), No. 2 in the Tu Mundo Ecuestre Latin Show Jumping Ranking, opened the bronze jump-off with a masterful performance, executing a tight inside turn to a double combination that few would attempt, sealing his round in 43.21 seconds with Farino du Guinefort, an 11-year-old bay SF stallion (Upsilon x Arpege Pierreville). Luis Fernando Larrazabal (VEN), gold medallist in the speed class and bronze medallist in the team competition, followed with Baroness, an 11-year-old bay Westphalian mare (Balous Bellini x Polydor), attacking the course with speed, but brought down the final fence in a time of 43.42 seconds that would not have been enough anyway. Simón Arango (COL) with Kadar HBC, an 11-year-old chestnut KWPN gelding (A Lee Spring Power x Tolan R), and Fernando Parroquín (MEX) with Escudero Sdn, a 10-year-old bay Zangersheide gelding (Mr Blue x Baloubet du Rouet), both retired after early faults left them with no chance of matching Pizarro’s time. The bronze medal was Mexico’s.
The gold medal jump-off arrived with Victoria Huertematte (PAN) entering first with Quick Chick 3, an 11-year-old chestnut Holsteiner mare (Quo Vados x Capitol I), riding conservatively to secure a clear, but bringing down one fence to complete her round in 51.30 seconds with 4 faults. The door was wide open for Terán Tafur, who with the experience and precision that define his riding eliminated fence after fence with total control, completing a flawless round in 48.66 seconds with Henry Jota Apolonio, a 10-year-old bay AAFE gelding (Chester Z x Quidam de Revel), sealing the gold for Colombia on a historic afternoon in Santo Domingo.
