Samantha Schaefer (USA) and Skylar Wireman (USA) shared the win in the $31,100 CSIO3* 1.45m Speed at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, Nations Cup Week, designed by Peter Grant (CAN) with 64 combinations on course. Both crossed the finish in exactly 65.07 seconds despite taking completely different approaches to the track.
Schaefer took an inside turn between fences 3 and 4 with James Bond HX, a 12-year-old chestnut KWPN gelding (Douglas x Cash), a decision that paid off perfectly with a horse she has known well since his eight-year-old year: “My plan was to have an efficient go and play to our strengths. He’s a good vertical jumper and quite alert and game, so I took a shot there.” Wireman instead trusted the natural speed of Barclino B, a 10-year-old bay Holsteiner gelding (Constanzehof’s Barcley x Lasino): “I never even looked at the inside turn. I knew Barry’s natural speed could carry me around just as quickly. He jumped really well, and he feels great for the rest of this week.”
Dominic Gibbs (USA) completed the podium in third with Contra, a 10-year-old bay Holsteiner mare (Contendro II x Alcatraz), in 66.29 seconds, closing out an all-American podium. Stella Wasserman (ISR) finished fourth with Myjorka, an 11-year-old grey Hanoverian mare (Mylord Carthago HN x Quidam’s Rubin), in 67.05 seconds. Sean Jobin (CAN) completed the Top 5 with Arkuga, a 15-year-old bay AES gelding (Arko III x Heartbreaker), in 67.09 seconds.

An all-American Top 3 with three United States representatives dominating the podium. Maya Denis (MEX) was the top Latin finisher in forty-third place with 4 faults in 69.52 seconds. Cassio Rivetti (BRA) finished forty-fifth with 4 faults in 70.30 seconds.
