Jelmer Hoekstra and Bellissima dh Z Top the $50,000 Ascentè Aviation American Standard Grand Prix at WEC Ocala.

Inside turns made the difference, and Jelmer Hoekstra read them better than anyone.

Jelmer Hoekstra (NED) claimed the $50,000 Ascentè Aviation American Standard Grand Prix in the Grand Arena at World Equestrian Center Ocala, designed by Anthony D’Ambrosio (USA), with 23 combinations on course and 9 qualifiers for the jump-off. Hoekstra crossed the finish in 44.382 seconds to take the win.

Bellissima dh Z is an 8-year-old bay Zangersheide mare (Bamako de Muze x Lux Z), owned by Hoekstra Stables, a partnership of just over six months that continues to impress even her own rider: “She’s such a fighter and wants to do well every single time in the ring. Every time we go in together, she just gets better. I’m really happy with her.” Hoekstra committed to bold inside turns that few riders attempted: “At the first inside turn, I wanted to save some time. She jumped fantastic to the oxer, and I knew I could go inside because she’s so brave.”

Kyle Dewar (CAN) finished second with Hutin de L’Abbaye, a 9-year-old chestnut SF gelding (D&H Valmy de la Lande x Panama Tame) owned by Dewar himself, in 45.587 seconds. Aaron Vale (USA) completed the podium with Dumbo 23, a 9-year-old bay Holsteiner gelding (Diamant de Semilly x Casall) owned by Magic Feather, in 46.028 seconds.

Madison Wayda Smith (USA) finished fourth with Scenorrado vd Hunters Z, a 13-year-old chestnut Zangersheide gelding (Hunters Scendro x Corrado I) owned by Smith herself, in 46.810 seconds. Sharn Wordley (NZL) rounded out the Top 5 with Heritage MBF, an 11-year-old bay ISH gelding (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Otangelo) owned by NRG Farm LLC, in 51.947 seconds, the first to return in the jump-off and the first to set the standard.

The top Latin finisher of the day was Pablo Barrios (VEN) in seventh place with 4 faults in 45.653 seconds.
