The Olympic gold medallist came home, and Bandit proved that a year on the sidelines hadn’t taken anything away.
Harry Charles (GBR), Olympic gold medallist, claimed the ClipMyHorse.TV Tankard at the Agria Royal International Horse Show Hickstead 2026, a CSIO5* Two Phase class in the International Arena with 56 combinations on course. Charles crossed the finish in 29.04 seconds to take the win on the opening day of the historic British show.
Bandit is an 11-year-old bay ISH stallion (OBOS Quality 004 x Cruisings Micky Finn), owned by Peter Charles and Stall Zet, a horse back to his very best after a year on the sidelines, claiming his third consecutive victory. “He’s a bit of a Swiss Army knife because he doesn’t spook, he’s extremely brave, and he’s super fast,” said Charles. “It’s good to win not only on the opening day but at a home show as well. I grew up coming here. I watched my dad win the King George here, which is probably the first class I was old enough to remember him winning.”
Lucy Davis (USA) finished second with Ben 431, a 15-year-old bay Westphalian gelding (Sylvain x Quincy Jones) owned by Old Oak Group, in a time of 29.19 seconds. Kendra Claricia Brinkop (GER) completed the podium with Gatsby le Magnific, a 10-year-old bay gelding (Action Breaker x Ogano Sitte) owned by Stephex Stables, in 29.28 seconds.
Humaid Abdulla Khalifa Al Muhairi (UAE) finished fourth with Mentos, a 9-year-old grey KWPN gelding (Cicero Z van Paemel x Verdi TN) owned by Al Shira’aa Stables, in 29.44 seconds. Jack Whitaker (GBR) rounded out the Top 5 with D&H Valmy de la Lande, a 17-year-old grey SF stallion (Mylord Carthago HN x Starter) owned by Michael Whitaker, in 29.85 seconds.
